Suntech PV Modules Contributes to Successful Grid Connection of 26.7 MW Colombia Planeta Rica

With the installation of Suntech’s C72/Pmh+ modules, the Planeta Rica plant will supply over 48 GWh of electricity per year to the grid and is expected to generate around USD 1.6 million in proportionate revenues for the Company in 2024. The product adopts 182mm large-size wafers, and MBB and half-cell technology, which greatly shortens the current conduction distance on the fine grid by more than 50%. Through the optimization of cell technology and material, the decay caused by PID phenomenon is reduced. The module design is highly compatible with power plant tracking systems, which offers a cost-effective solution for large power plants. The gain of double-sided power generation increases up to max. 25% with the light on the back side, and significantly reduce LCOE.

The power plant was built by the international engineering and construction group Mota-Egil. Bancolombia provided a project finance facility to the project to fund construction and the operational phase of the project. Planeta Rica will sell electricity under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to Celsia, one of the country’s leading energy companies. The plant is expected to avoid the emission of over 4,000 tons of CO2 each year.

In the future, Suntech will always adhere to its original intention to help clean energy and green power enter the lives of more people, and further promote the early realization of the “double carbon” goal.
